Lip Balm Mania!

All of my in stock lip balms are now up and listed in my Etsy shop!  Hooray!  And even the ones that were already listed have bright new photos.

Can't decide which flavor to try first?  There's a Pick Two listing, feel free to mix and match any two flavors.  And yes, that does include the cuticle balm as well.

Treasury Tuesday - Tot School Time!

Yes, I know I'm a bit late for a Tuesday blog update.  Today was a bit busy, but hey, better late than never, right?  And any time is fine for Tot School Time!

Zoey loves doing Tot School.  An hour in the morning of fun hands-on learning with Mama.  Seriously, what could be better?  So last night while I was waiting on my printables for next week's Tot School to print, I browsed on Etsy for Tot School items.  I know Zoey would love them all!

Wooden Rainbow Stacking Sorting Bowls, by HomegrownToys on Etsy

My girl definitely loves sorting.  I mean, she even sorts her M&Ms by color and eats all of one color before moving on to the next.  So she would definitely love these sorting bowls by HomegrownToys.  They also make tongs and acorns painted to match the bowl colors.  Perfect for working on developing motor skills.

Speaking of motor skills, Zoey had a hard time with clips for a good while.  I made something sort of similar to these with shapes on the clips, but it never occurred to me to make some with colors.  And since matching is sort of like sorting, Zoey loves it too.

Felt Number Boards, by MostlyMontessori on Etsy

Zoey also likes counting, and can identify numbers, apparently all the way up to 20 (And also the number 30, unfortunately.  "Mama, you're 30!").  But she's not quite ready to write them yet, even by tracing them.  Feeling the felt and letting me help her trace it with her finger would be a great way to help her get ready for that.

There are many more wonderful tot activities in my Tot School Time! treasury.  Stop by.  The toddlers in your life will thank you.  ;)

Father's Day Fun

For Father's Day Zoey had three gifts to make -- one each for her Daddy, Grandaddy, and Grandpa.  After spending time browsing on Pinterest (probably too much time if I'm being honest), I came across a really cute hand print card.  And no, I didn't care that it was supposed to be a Valentine's Day card.  Toddler hand prints are always in season.

I can't find the original one I pinned.  I swear I pinned it, but now I can't find it.  After a little searching, I finally found something similar to the pin I can no longer find.  And no, it probably isn't because I have too many pins to look at.  Unless we're talking food and drink pins.

Zoey had never had her hand print traced before, so having her hold her hand still was interesting.  Apparently it tickled.

After folding the card stock in half, I traced her hand along the folded edge and cut it out, so that it sort of made a heart when opened.  Then it was time to paint!  Zoey wanted to use her dot paints, and then the next day wanted to add glitter.  She had a blast making these, and was so proud that it was her hand.

Treasury Tuesday - Double Rainbow All the Way, Across the Sky!

OK, I know this video has been around for a while now.  But the song remix thing has been stuck in my head recently.  So I thought it would make a pretty great theme for a treasury.

KnotaGeek, on Etsy

This Summer Slouch Hat by BeKind teammate Knota Geek is full of bright rainbow color, perfect for hot summer days or hanging out at the beach at night.

CanvasBlues, on Etsy

I just love looking at this oil painting by Canvas Blues.  I think it's all the texture on the clouds, but it's beautiful.

ReLovePlanet, on Etsy

And who can resist a cute little unicorn?  These adorable clips by BeKind teammate ReLove Plan.et are too cute to pass up!

Come take a look at Double Rainbow All the Way, Across the Sky!  Seriously, it's so intense.

Treasury Tuesday - Here's To You, Dad!

With Father's Day just around the corner, what better theme for today's treasury?  And seriously, Etsy is a great place to shop for these kinds of gifts.  There are just so many talented crafters out there!

ShesTutuCuteBtq, on Etsy

I mean, how can you resist things like hand print trees?  Too cute!  Plus, kids love to paint.  (At least, mine does.)

You may remember from my last treasury that I love baseball.  So obviously I love this photograph.  Combining baseball with a cute thumb print heart?  Love it!

signaturetshirts, on Etsy

Looking for a gift for the soon-to-be-dad?  No problem.  Clearly if your man has two thumbs and is going to be a daddy, he needs this shirt.

Stop on by today's treasury, Here's To You, Dad! and check out even more great Father's Day gift ideas.

More Beer Soap, Please!

Recently I made a batch of soap with Sierra Nevada.  Well, yesterday I took some photos of this sweet-smelling soap.  And then last night while watching a recorded episode of Iron Chef America (yay for Michael Symon!) I got it up and listed in my Etsy!

A friend of mine, who likes beer, asked if I could make a soap with a pale ale. Of course! Sierra Nevada gives the lather a rich creaminess, and all of the hops in the beer make for a sweet smelling bar of soap. A perfect soap for any beer aficionado.

Do you like me on Facebook?  If you don't, you might have missed the face I found while photographing soap yesterday.

(Sort Of) New! Shiner Bock Soap

I've had my Shiner Bock Soap available in the Pick Three listing for a while now, but this is one of those soaps sitting here without its own listing.  So... Introducing the (sort of) new Ben's Favorite Beer Soap!

Ben likes beer--all kinds of beers. But like so many Texans I know, his favorite is Shiner Bock. I always have people ask if beer soap smells like beer. No, you won't smell like a brewery after your shower. With nothing else added to this soap for scent, all you get is the sweet smell from the hops. And a rich, creamy lather from the beer.

I also took some new photos this afternoon for my Coconut Pear Soap, which was already in my shop.

Sweet coconut and pear - a sweet, yet fruity winning combination that's reminiscent of summer. This soap is made with coconut milk for a creamy lather.

Tooth Powder? Sure, Why Not!

For a while now, whenever I take a peek at my Etsy shop stats, there's at always at least one person who visited while searching for tooth powder.  Which I hadn't heard of before.  So, bring on the Google Fu.

Well, it turns out that tooth powder is pretty neat stuff.  All natural ingredients that gently scrub your teeth and gums clean.  Since my tube of Tom's toothpaste is almost empty, this morning seemed like a good time to make a tester batch of some tooth powder and try it out.

If you want to try making your own, check out Frugally Sustainable, Pocket Pause, or Wellness Mama.  In my batch, I used baking soda, Bentonite clay, finely ground sea salt, clove powder, stevia, and peppermint and spearmint essential oils.

I set aside some for myself out of the batch, and tried it this morning.  I dipped my wet tooth brush into the powder, tapped off the excess, and brushed like usual.  Now, it obviously doesn't get all foamy like toothpaste does, which is fine with me, that made me gag a few times when I was pregnant anyway.

After brushing this morning, my teeth still feel squeaky clean.  And I swear they looked whiter.  I'm definitely going to keep using this for a while.

It's Poll Time!

Mostly because I can't decide which one I personally like better, I've put a poll on my Facebook page about bath fizzies.  Now, when I say bath fizzies, I mean something that you put in your bath that fizzes, and makes some bubbles, but it's not like heaping mounds of bubbles like in a bottle of bubble bath.

I keep going back and forth between a loose, powdery-type of bath fizzy, and a solid fizzy that you crumble under running water.  I like the ease of use of just dumping in the powder.  But it looks like more bang for your buck with a small square of solid fizzy, versus a whole little tube of powdered fizzy.  What can I say, I like them both.  But the real question is, what do you think?

Let's Go Rangers! Treasury

So, I love baseball.  Specifically, the Texas Rangers.  Unless the Rangers are playing, I probably don't have baseball on the TV.

Little Girls Pheaseant StyleTee Shirt dress Red White, and Blue Texas Ranger Dress 2T-5T

And while I normally don't enjoy late starts, like last night, when they play on the west coast, last night it actually worked out pretty well.  My little tot was playing in the bath before bedtime, so I started working on a Rangers treasury.  There are so many awesome looking handmade Rangers items on Etsy, it was really hard to pick just 16.

Whimsical Bridal portrait, baseball Game Texas Rangers

I did end up missing the first part of the game, but it was for a good reason, I promise!  I made restock of my Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey soap.  (For those of you who want to know, I use that one on my face.  Or Lavender Oat.  They're both nice.)  Got it made and put to bed in time to watch the Rangers lose.  Oh well, there's always tonight.

So please, stop on by my treasury, Let's Go Rangers!  These two are just samples of the fun Rangers goodies to enjoy.

Introducing Nag Champa, Herbal Grapefruit, and Lavender Mint!

If you visited my booth at any of the craft shows I was at last year, you've already met these three.  But they're the first of a bunch of new listings of products I somehow managed to not put in my Etsy.  I know, I had a head shake at myself too.

I don't know how many times I've been asked a question similar to this one. "Barefoot Hippie, huh? So do you have a Nag Champa soap?" Of course I do! The classic hippie incense scent, but in a soap. Nag Champa is an earthy blend of patchouli and musk, finished off with sandalwood and a hint of rose. A perfect fit for the hippie in your life.

To me, Herbal Grapefruit is a definite "spa" scent. A mix of juniper and grapefruit, this scent is very refreshing and fresh.

My Lavender Mint lip balm is a refreshing, herbal flavor. A blend of lavender, peppermint, and spearmint essential oils smells light and fresh.

Soapy Photos

As I typed that title, I realized it could definitely be taken the wrong way.  Which made me laugh, so I'm keeping it there.

Anyway, I was recently bringing my inventory list up to date and realized that I happen to have a bunch of products sitting here that I never photographed or listed in my Etsy.  *gasp*  It's hard for people to buy it if they don't know it's there!  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and give me lots of sunshine, so I can get started on all those soapy photos I mentioned.  But it's not just soap, y'all.  Lip balms, too.  I'm even feeling ambitious enough to take photos of individual sugar scrub scents, instead of the choose your scent listing currently up.  Maybe I'll even redo some of the photos for all the goodies in my shop.

The Pick Three listing has all of the in stock scents listed, if there's one you like that isn't listed individually in my shop yet, feel free to ask me about it! (....and as soon as my coconut milk powder comes in, I'll be a soapin' machine to make restock of all the ones I'm out of!)

And since I mentioned being ambitious, I've also been back to tweaking my bath fizzy recipe.  I keep going back and forth between a solid or powdered loose fizzy.  What do you think?

A Springtime EtsyVeg Team Treasury

I haven't created a treasury on Etsy in...  Well, let's just say a while.  Like, a long, long while.  So today I had the urge to make one.  Click on over to take a peek at Springtime Smiles, a treasury with all the things I love about Spring, featuring my EtsyVeg teammates, of course!

Coming Soon to an Etsy Shop Near You...

...IPA beer soap!  Two flat Sierra Nevadas later, I now have two logs of IPA soap hanging out and waiting to be cut and put on the curing rack.

I'm interested to see if the shade of brown will change as it cures.  When I poured the raw soap into the molds, it was a dark chestnut, and has already lightened up a bit.  And for those of you wondering what on earth IPA soap smells like, it's a very sweet, hoppy scent.

As always, feel free to stop by my Etsy shop to see what scents are currently in stock.

Happy Earth Day, Everyone!

Obviously, with an Etsy shop named Barefoot Hippie Soapworks, I'm kind of a hippie.  Which means I don't save all of my green, crunchy stuff for Earth Day.  But I thought it might be a good day to share some of them with y'all.

One of the more recent environmentally-friendly (and tot-friendly) things is cloth diapering my little one.  Before she was born, her daddy and I had several discussions about whether or not it would be something I'd actually want to stick with.  Well, let me tell you, not only are they stinking cute, but they also don't end up in landfills and Little Miss doesn't have chemicals right up on her tushie.

A friend of mine asked me once how I felt about needing to use so much more water, because of all the extra laundry.  One.  Babies are messy.  I'd still have done a lot of laundry.  And two.  I'll take more water usage over 8,000-ish of her diapers just sitting there in a landfill.

We also use a lot of cloth items in general.  Cloth wipes, napkins, pads, and cleaning cloths.  No more disposable dusters for me!

I also happen to love Ecos detergent (especially the Lavender scent), and Bac-out cleaning products.  When I first started washing all the cloth diapers, I started with Rockin' Green Hard Rock.  It worked fine, but suddenly there were three kinds of detergents in the laundry room.  Ben's, mine and Zoey's, and Rockin' Green.  It was really kind of overkill.  Eventually I found Ecos, and it works wonderfully on everything - diapers, towels, clothes, you name it.

And since it's Earth Day, I'll probably ask Zoey this evening if she'd like to watch The Lorax.  Which means I'll also probably have to read it for probably the millionth time at bedtime tonight.  Girl loves her Dr. Seuss.  Which works out just fine, since I do too.

What's Soapin'?

A friend of mine, who is a fan of beer, recently became aware that I make beer soaps.  Basically, I blew his mind.  But then he asked if I could make an IPA soap.  Of course I can!

So here it is, getting nice and flat and undrinkable.  Soon, it will make some delicious soap with a creamy lather.

Are you also a beer person?  Don't want to wait for the new IPA soap to cure?  Well click on over to my Etsy.  In stock already are soaps made with Guinness, Shiner Bock, and Negra Modelo.  Grab one of each with the Pick Three listing and save a couple bucks.

Whoopsies! Plus Soap News

Clearly I never got into the habit of keeping up to date over here, since my last post is from New Year's.  So, a big whoops on my part.  There was even still the winter background.  Since it's already tank top and sandal weather here, a new background was definitely the first order of business.

I've also realized that I have some soap photos that I took but didn't edit.  So while you can currently find them in my Pick Three listing, they're not listed individually yet.  I suppose that's my goal for the week.  Or while I watch the Rangers this afternoon.  May as well multitask, right?

Also in the works is a new soap, thanks to a friend of mine.  But more on that very soon!

New Year's Resolutions

So I know I probably should've done this sooner, since we're now almost a full week into the new year.  Whoops.  Although I wouldn't have done it the last few days, I totally threw out my back while shaving my legs in the shower.  Yes, I felt like an old woman.  Still do.  Ugh.

Anyway, I don't do well with finishing things sometimes.  So this year I'm actually going to make a couple of resolutions, and they're pretty general, in hopes that I can stick with them.

Here we go!

1.  Let's start with the most specific one.  My stepmom gifts me every year with a subscription to Vegetarian Times, which I love.  But a lot of times I read through it and don't cook any of the delicious-looking recipes.  So each month I'm going to cook two from each issue.  I haven't decided yet what to make from the latest issue, I just finished reading it this morning.  I'll keep you posted.

2.  Ben and I are both wanting to lose some weight.  Which means this one is actually a two-fer - eating healthier and exercising regularly.  When I was into it before, I did treadmill or other cardio M/W/F mornings and weights T/Th.  So hopefully I can ease back into that starting on Monday.  Whee!  Although I suppose that all depends on how my back is feeling then, doesn't it.  Bah.

Good luck to all of y'all who also made New Year's Resolutions!

Happy New Year!

Wow, I was so busy getting ready for the holidays that it didn't even dawn on me to visit over here.  Whoops!

Zoey made out pretty well gift-wise.  So many people who love her and want to give her gifts!  She is definitely one well-loved little girl.

By far, her favorite gifts were her Yule gift (the slide up above) from Mama and Daddy, her Ernie alphabet tablet from Grandaddy, rocking horse from Grandpa and Gamma Carol, jingle bells from Uncle Cliff and Aunt Christy, and a Lego Duplo block set with story book from Mimi.

Oh, and Santa totally followed through.  All she asked him to bring for her was some black mittens.  Then it snowed Christmas day (gasp!  Snow in Texas!?!?) and she got to wear her new black mittens while running around the yard in the snow for the first time ever!  And yes, she held her arms out like that the whole time, on both days that there was snow.  Pretty sure it's from the mittens.  :)

I was given a couple of cookbooks, one of which I cooked from tonight - a yummy Vegetable Tetrazzini.  More about that coming soon.

Anyway, I hope y'all had a great holiday season.  Zoey sure did!
